On February 2, 2008 my friend soprano Rebecca Schorsch and I particiapated in the all day Schubertiade at Pianoforte Chicago.   We performed three songs by Schubert, in both their original version and in transcription for piano solo.  A few weeks later we did a longer program in which we performed six songs, which, alas, was not recorded

Pianoforte Chicago did record this performance and sent me a CD, which I converted to mp3 format so I could post the songs here for your listening pleasure.  I'm sure that you will notice that, like old time persian rug makers, I left in a few slight imperfections so that I would not make jealous the gods of piano playing.

Here they are, in the order that we sang and played them:

Du bist die Ruh' - the song, for voice and piano.

Du bist die Ruh' - the same song transcribed by Liszt for solo piano.

Die junge Nonne - voice and piano

Die junge Nonne, transcribed by Leopold Godowsky, solo piano

Erlkönig - voice and piano

Erlkönig, transcribed by Liszt for solo piano.

By the way, Pianoforte Chicago is a wonderful organization that sponsors a lot of concerts in a beautiful performance space through the PianoForte Foundation.  Visit the web page or the store if you're in Chicago.
